Ordinary Days

Last night while watching our favorite British show, Call the Midwife, there was a phrase used toward the end of the episode. The phrase struck me profoundly. The narrator said, "Embrace the  warmth of ordinary days." There is comfort in these words when we are facing difficulties or unpleasant circumstances. We hope for days that are boring really when going through storms that seem too much to handle.

With Easter just a few days away, I think of the "extra"-ordinary Day that was. With Mary Magdalene finding Jesus', her Master's empty tomb, she was most likely feeling anxiety, worry, a perplexed sense of what happened to His body. Maybe she wanted the warmth of His embrace. Maybe an ordinary day was what was needed. She didn't get that until Her Master said her name, Mary. Somehow, she knew it was Him.

Looking ahead to the day that was far from ordinary, the day that shows the depth of God's compassion for all of us who do not deserve His forgiven, but are given it anyway, may we stand in awe of His appareled love and embrace Him fully.

Happy Easter!
