The Passing of Charles Colson

Yesterday as I was on the treadmill at the Y, my husband was watching one of the TVs and said to me, "Hey your friend died." I looked up and saw that Charles Colson had just died. When Mr. Colson was in prison serving his time for his part in the Watergate scandal, I had written a letter to him. I had seen him on a tv show about his conversion to Christianity and wanted to know the name of the book that helped him become a Christian. I wrote the letter on January 4, 1975. On March 25, 1975, after his release from prison, he wrote back with a copy of the book.. The book was Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. I still have the letter that he wrote, however the book was loaned to my sister-in-law who also just passed away. I guess when the time is right, I will ask my brother-in-law if he might look for it for me. So, was Charles Colson my friend? Well, I never met him in person, but I did have that Christian connection. I know he is with God and one day when I leave this earth, I hope to meet him.Thank you God for saving Charles Colson and for our kinship in Christ.

Didn't spot you in the crowd, but it was a very good day.

Here is the txt of the homily if you wanted to reread. There were a couple of bits I thought were particulary good reminders. And oh, those hymns with the choir and organ. My little liturgical heart is happy. And what a fitting celebration of Chuck Colson adn what a good reminder of our promised future in the unceasing Light of Christ. http://www.beesondivinity.com/fromthedean/posts/homily
